Antivirus Software

The need to run antivirus software can simply not be stressed enough. If you do not have one installed right now on your computer, you need to install one immediately.

Malware and all forms of viruses are literally lurking behind everything on your computer. They’re ready to infiltrate your laptop from websites, apps and even downloaded files. Your safety could be compromised and you could be scammed on the internet, and you could even lose your files and valuable information.

It’s like leaving your home open without locking the doors. You need to install good antivirus software on your laptop, and there are a lot of options available- both free and paid.

Backup your System

One thing you should do more often is to back up your system.

Imagine a scenario where something goes wrong and it entails all your documents and files contained within your laptop get wiped. This would be severely less tragic if you had a backup somewhere wouldn’t it? There are enough ways you could back up your files – external hard drives are available for you to use manually, or you could sync your laptop to some cloud system, Dropbox or Google Drive.

Get Rid of Software

Your new laptop may come loaded with software you have no idea how you could possibly ever need. There’s no need to keep all those. The manufacturers simply put them in there because they were paid to do so.

You should first clear up all the useless software to reduce the lag on your system. They are only slowing down your laptop and taking up unnecessary space. It will also be easier if you know where to find a large chunk of files on your Windows to save more disk space.

But having the right kind of software is important. And having perfect features is more important. If you want to run Kali Linux, consider choosing one of the best laptops for Kali Linux to have the best performance.

Display Lights

Just like with your mobile phone, brighter screen display means lower battery time on your laptop. If you are using your laptop where there is no output to plug in, you should really dim down those screen lights. This will significantly extend the battery time on your laptop by reducing the load on your battery.

Overheating

You ever use your laptop for a long time and feel the bottom get really hot? This is because the hardware of your laptop produces a lot of heat and, the vents on the side and bottom are there to let this heat out. When you use your laptop in a position where those vents can’t produce proper ventilation, it will heat up. Be sure to keep the vents clear to avoid overheating. You could place your laptop on some books to elevate it off your study table.

Remove the Battery

Generally speaking, laptop battery will start to fail after a year or two. But it depends on how frequent you use your laptop. Most often than not, you’d probably be using your laptop from 4 to 8 hours – or more.

Remember, your laptop is not a server. You should not overuse it. Don’t leave your laptop open for 24 hours if you are not using it.

What we can suggest is, if you are using an uninterrupted power supply, then remove your laptop battery. Let your laptop run using the power from your UPS, directly. With this, you can help to expand the life of your battery.

Remember, you cannot be always sure that there’s an available spare battery available in the market. But we do recommend that you start getting a spare one as early as possible.

In the end…

Whether you prefer a MacBook instead of a Windows laptop or any variants of portable device, you should consider one of the tips we mentioned above. By knowing how to take care of your laptop, the life span of your device will go beyond your expectations.
