“Smile to pay” – Good Job Alipay Online Payment Solution and KFC!

Hangzhou, China – A new concept restaurant was launched by KFC called KPRO. But that is not the only highlight of this story. It is KFC’s new facial recognition online payment solution in partnership with Alipay. The online payment solution is called “Smile to Pay”. Yes, folks, it means that you have to face the camera, smile, and pay for your yummy meal at KFC.

Alipay is one of the best online merchant accounts service providers in China

While I was assigned to Shanghai, China for a one-year project, our team was amazed because bringing cash is not necessary in most cases. This is because we were using a merchant account service provider app on our mobile phone called Alipay. Alipay is considered one of the best online merchant account service providers in China. You only need to link your Alipay account with your debit or credit card bank accounts, and then you are good to go. All you have to do is open your Alipay app, have the generated QR code scanned by the establishment’s POS, and pay. You can use this app to pay for your food in most restaurants, establishments like Watsons, 7-Eleven, groceries, and many more. An Alipay app is very handy aside from the VPN I am using while in China.

What is KPRO by KFC?

KFC is known for their different variety of foods, mostly chicken-based food. But what is this KPRO concept restaurant and what can it offer its customers? This is what Joey Wat, President and Chief Operating Officer of Yum China, has to say:

“We are excited to launch KPRO – an exciting and fresh new concept for young, tech savvy consumers who are keen to embrace new tastes and innovations. Developed to cater to China’s burgeoning population of urban professionals, KPRO offers a creative, modern and seasonal menu with a wide range of dishes that are freshly made-to-order. The restaurant is also made for the digitally connected customers and integrates some of the latest technologies from mobile ordering to facial recognition payment.”

What is in KPRO’s Menu?

The following enticing meals are among the foods served at KPRO.

  • Made-to-order salads
  • Panini
  • Roasted chicken
  • Freshly squeezed fruit juice
  • Gourmet coffee
  • Craft beer
  • Premium Cremia ice cream
